This weekends site was at Frogall which is at the end of the Caldon Canal and the start of the abandoned Uttoxeter canal. The scheme is to retore the first lock of the Uttoxeter Canal and the basin below it as a mooring.

A good getaway from London meant that we got to the pub in time for a drink or two followed by a late night toast orgy back at the accommodation.

On site on Saturday morning and a safety talk and site introduction by Mike Palmer.

One of the weekends jobs was to uncover the coping stones around the lower basin which involved a trench ...

... or just clearing the tops off them.

This lot are creating footpath diversion down to the tail of the lock where a footbridge is to be installed ...

... which will allow the rest of the lock to be excavated. This group are cleaning out the joints in the lock stonework.

A view of the lock from its tail.

Alongside the lock is the remains of a railway siding which is being restored as an exhibit, the base was placed during the WRG summer canal camp. The weekends work included repairing the stonework and replacing the railway sleeper buffers.

The cement for the weekend had to be fetched from the local British Waterways yard, the arrival coincided with ...

... the morning tea break which was held inside because ...

... it rained!

WRG forestry were with us carrying out tree clearance and practicing their tree climbing skills

The summer canal camp had also cleared part of Lock 2 of the Uttoxeter Canal.

Once the stonework joints were cleared a trench was dug behind the coping stones which were pushed back into place using an Acrow prop, the trench was then backfilled with concrete.

The work to the path continues. ...

... as does the restoration work to the railway siding.

A panoramic view of the lock and siding.

One day all sites will come equipped with picnic tables and ice cream kiosk

Not that this lot seemed to appreciate it!

Harriett and Dave put a fence around their trench ...

... whilst Sally points up the lock stonework.

We shifted twenty tons of stone over the weekend.

Sunday saw all hands to the pointing ...

... and completion of the railway buffers

One side of the lock has unusual coping stones.

The accommodation was at Consall scout camp ...

... with its luxurious sleeping arrangements!
