The work site was Loudwells lock, the only lock on the canal, the rest of the canal was operated using lifts.

The work for the weekend was to find the bottom cill and to create a picnic area on the offside.

The cill excavation was mainly carried out by hand (Well ... with shovels) ...

... and Rick made the hole by the offside quoin his own!

Tea break using the new Burco.

The locals staged a photo opportunity for the local papers, funny how they always pick the girls to be at the front!! Richard is clearing the picnic area and removing tree stumps with the excavator.

Our leader Sally and David.

The excavation at the end of Saturday

On the way back to the accommodation we visited the aqueduct at Nynehead that we worked on in 1991 ....

... and the evidence!

The Aqueduct over the River Tone, also at Nynehead

Another view of Tone Aqueduct, apparently it has a special curve in it (In joke)

Sunday saw a bit more rain, here Martin shelters under the only cover whilst Harri braves the elements.

The excavator also assisted in the excavation ...

... and Rick gets very excited ...

... when we finally find the cill.

Despite the rain we managed a decent bonfire to burn the tree stumps and the canal bed clearance.

A view of the excavation and cleared picnic area at the end of the weekends work.
